Recycled Rubber Speed Cushions Save Over 1,123kg Of Carbon Emissions!

06 May 2021

Another example of improvement through innovation from Team GW Highways!

We wanted to provide an alternative to conventional asphalt speed cushions with a focus on improved outcomes, low maintenance and a more sustainable solution. Through discussions with Rosehill Highways, we commissioned a project to install several surface mounted rubber speed cushions made from recycled tyres to help calm traffic and enforce the speed limit.

The recycled rubber speed cushions flex to the camber of the road and require no excavation, incorporating a unique underside profile that moulds itself to the road. Fully compliant with DfT and UK Council specifications, each unit weighs 170kg and is resin bonded and bolted to the pavement. We have saved more than 1,125kg of carbon emissions, making this a great alternative to mainstream speed cushions.

Better still…we provided this at no additional cost to our client, Kent County Council.

We don’t maintain, we build back better!
